Day 17, Three Aussies in Kiel...

Morgen all again, or Tagen, as the case may be... ? (It's 12.30, a musician's morning...)

If you say guten morgen for good morning and guten tag for good day then can you just say 'tagen' for 'afternoon'...? If my experience of the German language to date is anything to go by, you probably say something completely unrelated to any of those words, most likely with some kind of ch, sh or grrr inserted in a place which makes the word ten times more difficult to pronounce than it otherwise would have been. Thank god for Genau. Genau.

A great night at Prinz Willy in Kiel, 17 days into the tour, sharing the stage with two of my best mates from Australia - Brett Winterford and Kent Eastwood. Three Australians, busting out some tunes on a Thursday night, somewhere on the Baltic coastline. And what a venue. The type of environment you'd happily play in every night of the year - a beautiful intimate space, an old upright piano, an attentive audience, and a tremendous host. Willy is one of the nicest, most welcoming people you'll ever meet. (Exactly the opposite to the type of person you might expect to be putting the word Prince in front of his name when naming a venue...). A kind soul with a genuine enthusiasm for new music and a willingness to support independent artists, doing what they love to do. I hope to be back here again soon, although next time I'll remember to wait for the tremendous baguette provided at the end of the night, rather than eating my weight in pommes frites from the Kebab shop on the corner... This is never a good way to prepare to sing, despite the vague sense of comfort and/or warmth you may experience in the short term...

Was out for a wander this morning, in search of Brotchen as is often the case... It's Autumn proper now, and there's a real chill in the air. I don't expect we'll get a chance to head to the beach today, and I certainly won't be braving a stand-up paddleboard (a la last year) with the arctic winds sweeping in across the baltic sea. But that's ok, I've got a summer in Australia to look forward to, and it's time to head south... Tonight I'll be playing a house concert in Berlin, and tomorrow we'll all be a the Melodica Festival to see Brett and Kent in action again - if you're in town why don't you come along...?!

Another link to the Melodica Festival in case you missed the first one

Tschuess x
(That's pronounced "Choose"... and it should be a u with two dots, no e, and the big B thing that means to s's.... naturlich...)

PS - A big thanks to our hosts for last night - Kate and Jelena - see you in Australia!!
