Day 15, Kuechen Sessions Hamburg

Well it's nice to be on the road for a few days with my good mates the brothers Winterford and Eastwood from Australia. A great chance to catch up on the past few months, and pretty awesome being able to hang out with musical friends from Sydney on the other side of the world... Alright yeah.

So following on from our gig on Monday, we headed back up to Hamburg yesterday to play for the Kuechen Sessions. Actually you're meant to have the u with the two dots over the top of it, then no e, but if you can't find the u with the two dots on your keyboard then it's ok just to use "ue". Several times so far this trip people have said to me 'Life's too short to learn German'. I'm starting to see what they mean, although I won't ever tire of using the word 'Genau'. Just look how many different meanings it has, but all the same at once! Absolutely fantastich.

Sorry I was talking about the Kuechen Sessions, then I got distracted. Genau. The Kitchen Sessions (English) is a music video website set up by local music lover Jens Pfeiffer, in his kitchen, several years ago. He has since hosted artists from all over the world, organised two very successful festivals (the most recent of which I attended earlier on the tour) and collectively the youtube channel has had in excess of a million views. Not a bad effort for a guy in a one bedroom apartment in central Hamburg!

If you think it's a little strange to be performing in someone's kitchen, rest assured this type of viral video site is quite a popular medium for promoting independent music around the world. You can jump online any time you like and see people playing music in all sorts of places - Balconies, Black Cabs, Sheds, Kombi Vans, the list goes one... But a Kitchen is quite unique I think, and it was a lovely little space to perform in, especially with the sun streaming in through the open door.... Also a nice chance to sing with the rest of the gang, and Marina from Sunday's show in Hamburg - a little rendition of Crossfire which will be available online within the next week or so. Great solo performances from Kent and Brett as well - I'll post the links as they come in. Promise! But maybe over on the Facebook Page...

In other news, this morning we tried to make a Green Smoothie but the blender was broken. So we walked with a broken blender to the nearest cafe, where upon seeing the unblended smoothie, and the mad gestures of an Australian tourist as he uttered the the phrase 'Blender Kaput', the waitress raced to the kitchen to retrieve the industrial cafe model, which we then tipped our ingredients in, before returning them to our big glass jug upon completion of the blending process. The people are very helpful here in Hamburg. They also speak good English, a big bonus when you walk into a cafe armed only with a broken blender and the phrase 'Blender Kaput'. Genau.

We're off to Lubeck today. Another u with two dots that I can't find... Maybe by tomorrow I'll have figured out the German setting on my keyboard. Or maybe not. There are no winners or losers here. Just misunderstood vowels.

Bye for now... x
